Biological active soil
A biotic soil zone is a certain thickness and layered structure of soil through which water percolates, causing the pollutants it carries to be bound in the soil. It thus provides an effective and lasting protective function for the groundwater. The biotic soil zone can usually be replaced by equivalent substrate filters.
